Drawn by one of my students when I was a middle school maths teacher — all while I was trying to teach 🙂

Drawn, twenty years later, by one of my students when I was a university lecturer — still while I was trying to teach 🙂

And in 2025, drawn with one of my academic daughters — still while I was trying to teach 🙂

Our journey began with them telling the uni, “Amir isn’t teaching us — he just expects us to learn,” and ended with them nominating me for the Amazing Teaching Award, saying that “Amir has changed.” But it wasn’t me who changed — it was they who learned how to learn. And that nomination is why I won the award.

David Tall — my academic dad and the granddad of all my academic children — is the reason I behave the way I do academically: simply by being human.
